It was 1892 when Mapes Furniture first opened for business on Main Street in downtown Sunfield. Today, over 131 years later, Mapes Furniture is in the same location and owned by the same family. Benjamin Harrison was the President of the United States when Mapes first opened for business. In the early years, Mapes Furniture was Sunfield’s largest employer with a significant Casket Building Operation supplying coffin demands throughout the Mid-west. Eventually Mapes moved into the manufacture of all facets of Home Furniture items including chairs, cradles, tables, benches, bedding and more. By the time that the early 1900’s came around Mapes was a true ‘Cradle to Grave’ Resource for Michigan Residents. As time passed and the United States continued to modernize, Mapes too has changed and is today one of Mid-Michigan’s largest Home Furniture Showrooms spanning 3 Floors, 6 Store fronts wide, and a block deep. Our long relationships with the Industry’s leading Furniture Manufacturer’s affords Mapes Customers everyday low pricing not found in many Furniture stores.
